Assignment 1: Festivities From Around The World

Objective

Choose one festival that celebrates by other countries and designs a destination poster based on the festival and the main country selected.

Description and requirements

1a. Subject Matter Report
[WHAT] Chosen Festive Report (900 – 1,000 words)
Detailed a report about your chosen festival. The festivity must be of significant importance to either specific groups or society at large with a celebration of seasonal holidays or special days. Look at the origin of the festivity and examine into how the cultural background influences the way the festivity is being presented through tangible visual collaterals like greeting cards, gift wraps, food packaging and hampers, sales promotions, gifts and merchandises, window displays and decorations and media like video advertisements and songs.

[SO WHAT] Artwork Information (750 – 1,000 words)
Digest the information gathered from your report and devise a design summary (with visual
aids) describing your final artwork. Review your information based on these points:
• The idea (identified keywords – you can use a mind map for this)
• Concept (narratives or story to describe your artwork)
• Theme (the ambiance/feel of your artwork)
• Execution (techniques used in the creation of your artwork)
• Art direction (description of how you want your artwork to be seen)

1b. [WHAT NEXT] Artwork

digest. You are free to utilize any form of media execution (traditional or electronic) to create
one visualized piece.

We consult our selected festival and show our assignment progression to Ms. Noranis through PowerPoint. The festival that I choose is Holi Festival. Basically, it is a festival that usually celebrates at Hindu's countries.

Here are my slides for the Holi Festival:

This is my report for this assignment:

Besides that, this is the slideshow of my design direction:

Final Outcome

I use vector, lines, shape, and watercolor to create my poster. I also added Delhi skyline of India in my poster to show the destination architecture. I was being attracted by the way of Indian painting on an elephant during Holi Festival, so I enlarge the element of Indian henna doodling and color painting on an elephant vector. I use the tradition color as my color scheme but then I use a lot of bright colors to show the feeling of joyful and vitality for this festival.
